Ben Thompson wrote a very insightful piece on how BuzzFeed is succeeding by embracing Internet economics.

When the marginal cost of more is zero, then more is going to win. However, this is not just the long-tail model. It's not just aggregating a lot of junk; It's prospecting for oil.

No one can accurately predict what makes something go viral, so why try? Just post all the things, and let the audience decide. This is the winning model in the connected age, and it applied to much more than just funny videos or journalism.
